VG Soccer team nearly pulls off the upset of the season

The Varsity Girls soccer team came within a minute and a half of upsetting the Lady Olympians from Oxbow on Tuesday but came up short in overtime, losing 3-2. The Olympians came to town sporting a 6-0 record and had only given up one goal thus far this season. After a hard fought, scoreless, first half of spirited play, the Lady Raptors came out and scored twice in the first nine minutes of the second half. Melanie Emerson was credited for both goals with Jess Steketee assisting on the first. The Olympians pulled within one goal at approximately the :63rd minute and scored the equalizer on a disputed corner kick within the last 2 minutes of play. The game winner was tallied in the :82 minute. Coach Tenney was pleased by the overall play of his girls given that they were short handed as a result of a number of players being unable to play due to various injuries.

It was an awesome game to watch and the spectators were very actively involved as fans from both sides were very vocal in supporting their respective teams. The members of the Varsity and JV Boys teams did a great job in initiating schoolspirit from the student section. The girls play host to Thetford on Friday at 4:30.
