The Varsity girls brought their complete package to the game field yesterday as they hosted the Red Devils from Chelsea in a rematch from earlier in the season. The first game resulted in a 3-0 victory for the Chelsea side, but yesterday, the Raptors desire and enthusiasm resulted in a double overtime 3-2 victory as Jess Steketee deposited a corner kick into the side net.
Although controlling play for most of the half, the only scoring came off the head of Deva Steketee as she took a corner serve from "younger"sister Jess. Early in the second half, a skipper of the wet surface found the Raptors net and Chelsea knotted the score at one apiece. A few minutes later Chelsea scored once again on a twenty five yard chip shot over the out stretched hands of Erica Preston. Late in the contest, Hope Amanatidis took one for the team as she was aggressively taken down outside the box. Deva neatly deposited the direct kick into the side net to even the score at 2-2. Erica made one more sensational save that allowed the game to go into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime of play, Jess scored the winner moments into the second to clinch the game. The win runs the girls record to 9-4 as the head into the final game of the regular seson vs. South Royalton on Saturday at 2:00pm.
